There's nothing better than homemade butter. This was made at the potluck in a 100+ year old butter churn that we used when I was a kid. We churned up some heavy cream from Golden Glen Creamery and I noticed that it turned to butter much faster than cream from mass producers. Don't know why -- maybe there's less processing?? But it made a lovely butter
ps - this went very nice with rolls made from whole wheat flour from Fairhaven Mills (Bellingham flour bought at Haggens). But the locavore movement brings us to the question raised by Thoreau during his sojourn at Walden's Pond: How does one acquire leaven for bread whilst living off the resources in front of him. Sorry -- had to use baking powder. I can't live without breads!
The first of a planned monthly Pot Luck for people interested in eating locally grown and produced food was a smashing success. What an amazing group of people and the food was incredible. The gatherings will be at 7PM on the second Tuesday of every month at the Scandia Coffee House and Eatery in Stanwood, WA. Thank you to Natasha Clarke and Donna King for putting this together.
