  1. There's nothing better than homemade butter. This was made at the potluck in a 100+ year old butter churn that we used when I was a kid. We churned up some heavy cream from Golden Glen Creamery and I noticed that it turned to butter much faster than cream from mass producers. Don't know why -- maybe there's less processing?? But it made a lovely butter

  2. ps - this went very nice with rolls made from whole wheat flour from Fairhaven Mills (Bellingham flour bought at Haggens). But the locavore movement brings us to the question raised by Thoreau during his sojourn at Walden's Pond: How does one acquire leaven for bread whilst living off the resources in front of him. Sorry -- had to use baking powder. I can't live without breads!
